lessons learned by a stay-at-home mom from her three kids (aged 4, 6 & 7).

let’s play MATH!

yes.  youve read it right.  my kids are playing math.

with the house so empty with just the three of us, i encourage the two boys to practice their mathematics.  solving problems though looks boring and too stiff thus i ask them to make use of our flashcards.

the house is empty because everyone is so quiet.  first-born is at school.  husband is with his bosses attending some planning session.  and though its saturday and its ps2 day, husband banned the boys to play ps2 because he got pissed off with second son yesterday when he cant answer his LCM (least common multiply) and GCF (greatest common factor) assignment.

anyway, second son got a little confused with his LCM and GCF math problem because he havent mastered the very foundation of math.  and so today, they are to practice math and show to papa they can do mathematics quick and easy!

the game is just so simple.

both boys stand facing the stairs.  second son asks bunso on addition while bunso asks second son on multiplication.  each correct answer merits one step up the stairs until they have reached the peak.

i could hear the boys giggling as they go up and down the stairs for 5 times.  their reward for a hardworking math play, they can now play ps2.  husband isnt around any way and he wouldnt know.  (wink wink)

  1. Naku baka maka 100 na sila sa Math. And di ba both math whizzes kayo ni Papa J. So your boys have good Math genes to begin with.
